FAQs
Tempeh is a traditional, plant-based superfood from Indonesia. To produce it, whole soybeans are washed, soaked, and cooked. They are then fermented using beneficial mold cultures like Rhizopus oligosporus. The fermentation process takes about 48 hours at around 30°C. During this time, the beans bind together to form a firm tempeh block with a delicious nutty, savory aroma. Tempeh is an excellent source of protein and provides B vitamins as well as important minerals. Fermentation may also have a positive effect on gut health and the immune system.
Lian’s Tempeh Chips are created with time, care, and true expertise. The base is high-quality tempeh, which is naturally fermented for 48 hours to develop its signature nutty flavor. The thinly sliced tempeh is then fried in small batches in pure coconut oil and finished in the oven. This two-step process creates a light, extra crunchy texture.
For us, there are no compromises. No palm or seed oils, no artificial additives, no perservatives. Only a few, genuine ingredients that you know and can pronounce.
This is how we show that irresistible taste is not created through shortcuts, but through quality and patience.
Our original variety is delicately salty, pleasantly nutty, and 100% crunchy. Thanks to the natural fermentation process, our Tempeh Chips naturally develop a pleasant nutty, slightly savory taste, and that with just a few natural ingredients. The thinly sliced tempeh pieces are fried in pure coconut oil and then baked in the oven. This ensures the lightness and extra crunchiness of our Tempeh Chips.
Yes! Lian's Original Tempeh Chips are 100% plant-based. We believe in simple, honest ingredients, which is why our Original Tempeh Chips are made with just eight simple ingredients: tapioca flour, soybeans, coconut oil, salt, starter cultures (Rhizopus), water, garlic, and shallots. Nothing more is needed for true flavor. That's why our Tempeh Chips are naturally vegan and also gluten-free.
All our Tempeh Chips are proudly made in the homeland of Tempeh: Indonesia.
Why? Because true mastery and the perfect climate go hand in hand there. The natural fermentation of tempeh requires a tropical climate and humidity. Indonesia naturally provides exactly that. Instead of artificially creating these conditions, we rely on nature and the knowledge of local producers. Following traditional recipes, a tempeh block of the highest quality is created within 48 hours of fermentation.
For Lian's, this means: authentic, crunchy and tasty tempeh chips whose quality you can taste with every bite.
We intentionally chose high-quality coconut oil over cheap palm or seed oil. There are three good reasons for this:
- Heat Stability: Coconut oil is naturally extremely stable at high temperatures, so almost no unhealthy trans fats are produced during frying.
- Taste & Crunchiness: Coconut oil gives our Tempeh Chips a particularly fine, crunchy texture and enhances the nutty aroma of the tempeh without overpowering it.
- Home & Tradition: Coconuts, just like tempeh, are deeply rooted in Indonesian cuisine. By using coconut oil, we remain true to the authentic flavor profile of Tempeh's homeland.
After frying, we bake our Tempeh Chips again in the oven. This removes excess fat and gives them a particularly light, clean crunchiness.
Our soybeans are sourced from Canada and guaranteed non-GMO. This way, you can always be sure of the high quality of our Tempeh Chips.
